2024

impact report

Archie Beetle (they/them)
Founder, CEO & Lead Educator

Queer Town’s word of 2024 has been GROWTH. From our reach to our team, our client base, our offerings, and most importantly, our impact, we’ve grown substantially. My own understanding of Queer Town as a business, along with my role as a leader, has grown too.

It’s been an empowering, thrilling, and at times, challenging year. But as I look through this impact report and see all we’ve achieved as a budding team in just one year, I’m filled with immense pride.

This year, we’ve educated thousands of individuals across Australia and beyond, launched powerful digital content, co-produced meaningful resources, and hosted colourful public events for our growing community of LGBTIQA+ folks and allies alike.

Being recognised with the City of Melbourne’s 2024 LGBTIQA+ Award was an incredible milestone, but some of my fondest moments have been in workshops, witnessing participants’ epiphany moments. From tradies to performers, religious schools to inner-city corporates, our reach has been far and wide, and our feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

A few anecdotes stand out in my mind:

• A participant from a large tech company who shared that LGBTIQA+ topics had been culturally taboo throughout her upbringing, but that our workshop opened her eyes to new ways of thinking.

• A tradie who admitted he’d struggled to accept his child’s they/them pronouns but left excited to share his new learnings with them.

• And a teacher from a Catholic school who gave me a big bear hug, saying he was astounded by how aligned Queer Town’s values were with those he had lived by and taught his students.

Our mission is to educate, equip, empower (and entertain), and I can say with confidence that in 2024, we didn’t just achieve our mission, we absolutely bloody demolished it.

I could not be prouder of the dedicated team working alongside me to bring this vision to life. To Alex, Kin, and Law: three incredibly talented, passionate, and courageous humans who happen to be queer – thank you for your invaluable contributions, always delivered with compassion and good humour.

And, of course, thank you to our community of clients, partners, champions, and supporters. Word-of-mouth has been the driving force behind our growth, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has cheered us on and shared our work with the people in their lives.

As we look to 2025, our focus shifts to sustainability. We are committed to continuing our growth, innovation, and impactful education while ensuring that our efforts are measured, meaningful, and long-lasting.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we’re creating a new norm of inclusion where authenticity is celebrated.

Whether through our new Digital Short Course, one of our workshops, an upcoming public event, or online, we can’t wait to connect with you and work alongside you in 2025 and beyond.

Yours Queerly,

Archie Beetle (they/them)

IDAHOBIT: A CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY AND ALLYSHIP

Fri 17 May 2024 | Studio Take Care, Brunswick

We proudly hosted our very first IDAHOBIT event (International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination) and what an unforgettable morning! We had over 50 friends, allies, clients and community members come together for an event that was equal parts educational, emotional, and uplifting.

Our founder, Archie, hosted an engaging presentation on LGBTIQA+ fundamentals, weaving in personal stories that brought home the importance of this day, before a moving musical performance by local artist Benjamin Trillado had everyone in the room ugly-crying. Practical tips, meaningful conversations, belly laughs and 10/10 catering sparked conversations and connections that have carried on long after the event wrapped up.

With plans already underway, we’re gearing up to make IDAHOBIT 2025 even bigger and better. Stay tuned – we can’t wait to share what’s next!
