Novatti: Supporting a Gender Transition
How a Global Fintech Leader Took Meaningful Action on Trans Inclusion
Industry: FinTech
Services Provided: Leadership & Staff Training, Consultation
Impact: Organisational Change, Award-Winning Inclusion Program
The Challenge
Novatti, a global leader in financial technology, prides itself on customer experience and progressive workplace culture. When a team member shared their plans to transition, Novatti’s leadership saw the need to support not just one employee, but to strengthen inclusion across the organisation.
With a diverse workforce spanning multiple regions and timezones, Novatti needed a structured, intersectional approach that engaged all staff while ensuring the transitioning team member wasn’t responsible for educating their peers. Their goal was clear: equip everyone with the tools to foster a safe, respectful, and affirming workplace.
Our Approach
Queer Town designed a tailored trans inclusion program that balanced education, policy guidance, and individual support. Recognising that workplace transitions can be deeply personal and sometimes challenge existing beliefs and processes, we provided Novatti with a roadmap for confident, informed action.
The program included:
Confidential Consultation & Culture Assessment – Identifying potential knowledge gaps, workplace dynamics, and proactive strategies.
Leadership & HR Training – Equipping decision-makers with best practices in trans-inclusive policies, communication, and discrimination prevention.
Staff-Wide Inclusion Training – Ensuring employees across all regions gained a clear understanding of trans identities, workplace respect, and allyship.
Pre- & Post-Training Surveys – Capturing shifts in awareness, concerns, and confidence levels among staff.
1:1 Support for the Transitioning Employee – Providing a safe and structured process that centred their needs without placing additional burden on them.
Impact Reporting & Next Steps – Outlining a clear roadmap for ongoing LGBTIQA+ inclusion beyond the training.
“As an organisation dedicated to inclusivity, we turned to Queer Town for expert guidance on authentically integrating LGBTIQA+ inclusion into our workplace culture. They designed a comprehensive program aimed at upskilling and educating our entire global workforce while fostering a safe and inclusive environment, which we found to be profoundly insightful, authentic, and transformative, leaving our team thoroughly impressed and engaged.
Armed with newfound knowledge and tools, we are better equipped to nurture a more inclusive and supportive workplace environment. I wholeheartedly endorse Queer Town for any organisation committed to championing diversity and inclusion.”
The impact
The results of the program were tangible across multiple levels of the organisation:
A more confident and informed workforce: Post-training surveys showed that 95% of employees felt more prepared to support trans colleagues and apply inclusive practices in their work.
Strong leadership buy-in: The Executive team championed inclusion, working with all team members to embed trans-affirming policies, including pronoun use in internal systems and documentation. Everyone contributed support and guidance, ensuring a collective commitment to inclusion.
A seamless and affirming transition: The transitioning employee expressed relief and gratitude, highlighting that the process felt safe, well-supported, and free of unnecessary burden.
Industry recognition for best practice: Novatti’s commitment to trans inclusion was awarded FinTech Australia’s 2024 Finnies Award for Best Workplace Diversity, positioning them as a leader in workplace equity within the sector.
Proactive planning reduces uncertainty: By engaging Queer Town early, Novatti avoided reactive decision-making, ensuring an informed, structured approach.
Intersectional strategies create buy-in: Considering diverse cultural, geographical, and belief systems ensured that training resonated across teams and regions.
Support must extend beyond training: Ongoing consultation and structural policy changes ensured long-term, meaningful impact rather than a one-time intervention.
An inclusive workplace benefits everyone: This initiative reinforced a workplace culture of respect, psychological safety, and allyship, not just for trans employees but for all staff.
